He authored and illustrated several children's books, among them Mask, the Door County Coon, Bruno, the Bear of Split Rock Island and Smart Little Mouse, all inspired by life in Door County, Wisconsin where he spent his summers. He was a member of the Wisconsin Regional Writers group. As a fine arts painter, he exhibited with the Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors and was represented in the Wisconsin Centennial Exhibition in 1948. He studied on a scholarship at the Layton School of Art from 1935-1938.
